The Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute applauds Governor Abbott, Lt. Governor Patrick, and Speaker Bonnen after their release of a joint statement supporting a one-cent increase in sales tax as a means to buy down property taxes.
“For over a decade, TCCRI has advocated Texas should reduce its reliance on property taxes,” said Mia McCord, organizational President of the Texas Conservative Coalition Research Institute.
“By marginally increasing the statewide sales tax and using the revenue to buy down local school district property tax rates, Texans would see immediate property tax relief. When coupled with the tax reform proposals under the leadership of Governor Abbott, Lt. Governor Patrick, and Speaker Bonnen, Texas moves one step closer to having a fairer, more equitable tax structure that will benefit generations of future Texans.”
